Manchester<\/strong> is a town dynamic<\/strong> where academia meets wealth cultural<\/strong>. To give us an insight into student life at\u2019University of Manchester<\/strong>, we spoke with Olivia<\/strong>, who has just completed their first year of Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Management (Marketing).<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a little background, Olivia<\/strong> double-breasted nationality<\/strong> French<\/strong> and British<\/strong> and obtained her French Baccalaur\u00e9at with specialisms in SES<\/strong> (Economic and Social Sciences) and HGGSP<\/strong> (History, Geography, Geopolitics and Political Science). Its IGCSE<\/strong> (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) enrich<\/strong> as well as his academic background.<\/p>\n

Studying management at the University of Manchester<\/h2>\n

Management programmes start with an first-year common core<\/strong>, providing a solid foundation before allowing you to specialise in the second year for better career opportunities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can choose from a lwide range of course units<\/strong> to personalise your degree<\/strong>. The option BSc Management<\/strong> (Marketing) is designed for those interested in strategic marketing management, covering areas such as market research<\/strong>, the product development<\/strong>, the brand management<\/strong>, the communications<\/strong> integrated marketing and the retail.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We asked Olivia if the course met her expectations and she confirmed that it did, mentioning that \u00ab the teachers are very good and the course content is interesting<\/strong> \u00bbShe specified to us that the wide range of subjects covered in the first year makes it easier to choose the specialisation<\/strong> in the second year.<\/p>\n

Meet the challenges of the course<\/h3>\n

One of the unexpected challenges Olivia faced was the level of mathematics<\/strong> required for her course. She indicated that it would be beneficial to have a deeper understanding of mathematics than just the required IGCSE level. She considered it essential to undertake a substantial amount of work<\/strong> additional, but added that \u00abthe teachers are very nice and can help us\u00bb.<\/p>\n

With 15 to 16 hours of seminar classes<\/strong> and of lectures<\/strong> per week, combined with a similar amount of\u2019self-directed learning<\/strong>, time management is essential. Olivia insists that a meticulous note-taking<\/strong> throughout the year and the completion of all required readings are essential for passing the end-of-year exams.<\/p>\n

Beyond the lecture theatres<\/h3>\n

L\u2019University of Manchester<\/strong> offers a kaleidoscope of opportunities beyond the academic sphere. With a myriad of companies<\/strong> to explore for extra-curricular activities. Olivia decided not to join too many societies during her first year as she wanted to settle in. She chose to join Running<\/strong> and French<\/strong>, where she is keen to use her French skills to be able to teach it during her second year and hopes to join the Dance company<\/strong> soon.<\/p>\n

She stresses the importance of carefully examining the course content to ensure it aligns with your personal aspirations.
