Outside of France and Belgium, an increasing number of French students are turning to reputable training courses exempted in English or in French at universities in Spain, Malta, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, etc.
Why are health studies so appealing?
Here are some of the reasons given by our students who choose to study abroad:
- The selection is done at the entrance of the training and not as in France at the end of the first year of medicine or two years of vet prep school
- The training courses are more practice-oriented from the early years

A wide choice, a few examples….
In Spain, the renowned universities of Valencia and of Navarre offer medical and veterinary training taught in English for the first few years. The veterinary training is also available in French. They continue in Spanish from the 3rd year onwards.
The prestigious English university Queen Mary University offers on its campus to Malta the same five years of medical training as those taught on its London campus, albeit with a separate admissions process and its own tuition fees.
Two universities in the city of Cluj-Napoca in Romania offer medical and veterinary training with teaching in English or French for the first few years, accompanied by intensive Romanian language courses to be able to carry out clinical placements in subsequent years in the language of the country. To give you some figures, there are currently in medicine more than 500 students following the French-language curriculum there and near to 1,000 students on the English-medium course. The presence of all these foreign students helps make Cluj a vibrant city with a very international atmosphere.
The cost of healthcare studies in Europe by country
Tuition fees vary by country and university, ranging from €9,000 a year in Romania to €35,000 a year in Malta, with opportunities for merit-based scholarships for certain courses.
And after these studies?
The training courses of vet that we offer you are all accredited by the EAEVE (European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education), which allows students, once they have graduated, to practise their veterinary profession anywhere in Europe.
Following the studies of medicine in a university course recognised in Europe which we help you to select, students can access postgraduate studies and do their intern in France. For this purpose, they sit the same competitive entrance examinations as those who studied in France.
